Ex-DNC chair McAuliffe tours Va. today to announce for gov’s race

» 13 Comments | Post a Comment

Former Democratic National Chairman Terry McAuliffe's bid for governor of Virginia is almost official.

When he begins a four-day, 16-stop kickoff tour around daybreak Wednesday in Norfolk, McAuliffe will burnish his business credentials and pledge a nonpartisan approach to creating jobs in a bleak economy.

That locks in a three-way primary fight for resurgent Virginia Democrats in 2009's most closely watched election.

Former Delegate Brian Moran and state Senator Creigh Deeds entered the race early last year. Both have long lists of endorsements by legislative and local Democratic officeholders.

McAuliffe is a former top adviser to the Clintons and a prolific fundraiser whose national donor base could infuse the race with tens of millions of dollars.

Randy, I am not excusing, apologizing for or defending anyone.  In fact, I am not talking about the Clintons or MacAuliffe.  You started that side-tracking discussion.  I have not said one thing in support or rejection of any of them.  I am merely taking you to task for your hypocritical attitudes and behaviors and apparent inability to observe your own behavior.  This apparently informs your decision-making and it’s not only typical, but dangerous to the progress of society.  Go look in the mirror, maybe you’ll be able to see what I’m talking about when you aren’t filling the air with the smoke screen of “you guys are worse than we are”.  The bottom line here is that you are merely name-calling in your assessment of the above mentioned Democrats and that doesn’t pass muster for knowing what you’re talking about, either.  And not only are you name-calling, but you are saying that Dems do the same behaviors that the GOP does and acting like the GOP doesn’t do them at all.  Who’s being dishonest now?

celtworm…WOW, Saul Alinsky sure would be beaming with pride at your line of discussion. I think you ought to know the full context of the Bible passage you’re using before you use it. After Christ tells the crowd that the person who is without sin should cast the first stone, he turns to the woman in question and tells her to go and sin no more - PLEASE, if you’re going to use Bible passages, hook up with the people who supply you with your talking points to make certain they are used in context. Maybe the Dems should take a leadership role rather than act in kind, by sinning no more, but, the Dems are incapable of it.
If you’re acting as an apologist for Terry McAuliffe, I can only assume you’re as intellectually dishonest as he is. If you don’t like lying and political spin, you shouldn’t like Terry McAuliffe - but, you seem to want to defend him. Setting aside the GOP, the facts are, Terry McAuliffe is a highly partisan Clinton apologist who isn’t qualified for the post of Governor - it is also common knowledge that you’re defending him by pointing out problems with the GOP rather than admitting that he has his own, rather large set of personal baggage.

By the way, your use of the term “common knowledge” has as much credibility as Al Gore’s statement that “the debate on global warming is over”.

Nice try though.

Randy
I am not rationalizing anything.  I am suggesting that the GOP and all their supporters get your houses in order before you go throwing stones.  “Let he who is without sin….The GOP does not fit into that category, as evidenced by their recent behavior.  It’s common knowledge, not my just my opinion.  In fact, the GOP uses that tactic of “Oh, Yeah, well you did it too” to deny their behavior, as evidenced by your behavior in this post.  It takes one to know one, eh?

Celtworm - I must say that if your last post is what passes for wit in your social circle, you should spend more time making certain that the people seated to your immediate right and left aren’t eating paste during arts & crafts.

That’s the funny thing about you and your liberal friends, you have no idea how to raise the bar of excellence in leadership. Your manner of rationalizing poor behavior on the part of someone in your party is to point out that someone else is doing it - making it O.K. for TM to be a slimy snake oil salesman. I’ll be the first to tell you when my party screws up (bailouts being the most recent example) - you’ll never admit to such a thing rationalizing it as O.K. because “everyone else is doing it”. Do you understand how pathetic a quality that is for an adult? Do you understand how pathetic a quality that is for someone in middle school? Where did you learn this “I know you are so what am I” debating technique? An episode of Pee Wee Herman? You’re only supposed to watch Pee Wee Herman for entertainment, not life skills.

Your party, completely unaided by the Republicans, has given the country a significant amount of political scandal over the past 8 weeks. Before you start throwing stones at the GOP, get your own house in order.

I have to agree that I am concerned also that there are so many ex-Clintonites being installed in the new administration.  It doesn’t seem to be much of a change in personnel, or thinking, perhaps, just a change from the current pit of vipers we’ve been dealing with for the last 8 years.
Everybody looks to the past for inspiration and direction, but I’m not so sure about that tactic in this instance.

CARPETBAGGER!?  This is a perfect example of the holier than thou, isolationist, cain’t touch this, stuck in the past attitudes that still pervade Virginians’ thoughts and behaviors. Attitudinal secession is worse than physical secession from the Union of the States we call America.  Or more commonly know as, DENIAL! It infects generation after generation and stands in the way of progressive thinking that might actually be able to solve some of the social problems in Virginia.  Oh, but that would upset the plantation way of thinking and acting that continues and contributes to the social problems of Virginia!  Yeah, let’s keep things the way they’ve always been and expect a different outcome.  Crazy!

Well, if you support the unethical and ILLEGAL behavior of the current GOP administration, then you better just stay in the shower for the rest of your life!

Look everyone, Obama promised us change an now you’re getting it, we’re changing back to Team Clinton.

Frankly, there’s no way I will support an apologist for the unethical behavior of the Clinton administration. After listening to him talk, you just have the feeling that you ought to take a shower.

Let’s vote for another Democrat for Governor!  Higher taxes and dumb decisions!  Just what we need in a recession!  Yipppeee!  Oh… and this guy’s a former political fundraiser and head of the DNC too! Perfect!
