Poll shows Obama popularity slippage in Va.

A new poll shows President Barack Obama's popularity in Virginia has slipped below 50 percent.

The Public Policy poll of 617 likely general election voters showed Obama with a 48 percent approval rating, which is within the poll's margin of error of plus or minus 4 percent.

The survey showed 46 percent disapproval and 6 percent not sure.

The opinion is highly polarized, the poll shows, with 95 percent of Democrats but only 9 percent of Republicans viewing him favorably. Fifty-two percent of independents disapprove of his performance with only 38 percent approving.

The poll was taken June 30 through July 2.

This poll would be significant except the Family Values Party is made up of a decreasing number of not too bright leaders who have way too much testosterone for their own good.

Hi there. I voted for Barack Obama. But I am one of those severely disappointed. Had this poll contacted me, I would’ve also given Obama the thumbs down. I mean, here it is 7 months into his presidency and (a.) I still have to work for a living, (b.) I still have to pay for my gasoline, food, electricity & medical expenses and (c.) we still have occasional problems in the U.S.

Where are all those big promises of a “big change”??? Obama has really let me down.

Oh please. This board is funny and the topic. Mcain and Palin would have done what??? They ran the worst campaign in history, so you really think they can run the country. please…

McCain is not a conservative. Republicans were not happy with his nomination, and Republicans have not been happy with their own party for quite some time. They were spending money hands over fists, like democrats once did, and they were punished by the base for the spending spree. Now the Dems are in control and have completely lost their minds with the way they are spending money.

All I ask Obama to do no more than what was granted to him in the Constitution and he will actually have my vote. I’m sure he knows what is says, but for some reason, his actions seem to show a disregard for the document with contempt.

Rasmussen runs a daily presidential tracking poll.

It seems a bit more accurate according to the methodology. Obama isn’t doing so well in that one either.

One poll? I’m skeptical, but two seperate polls, by two DIFFERENT pollsters? Yeeeeeaahhh, It may be early, but this does not bode well.

thack: your post is a perfect example of just how we got into this socialist mess to begin with.

In the first psrt you say Obama ran a better campaign and you’re right: It was slicker than snake oil even though it lacked any shred of substance. So naturally it appealed to uneducated and “I’ve never voted in my life but I’m voting now to be part of history” segment. They just couldn’t get enough of the town meetings where he smiled and avoided answering any questions directly (which he is still doing).

In the second part of your post you say the problem with the economy is that people expect to get paid for doing nothing and again you’re right! So what does your guy do? He spreads around “stimulus” and bails out the banks, the mortgage companies, the auto industry, and individual homeowners who guess what - got paid off for doing nothing! Genius!!

Finally you say we all eventually run out of money unless we get an inheritance. Well don’t go counting on that inheritance just yet - Obama is gonna tax that, too.

Badger is correct in locale aspect. If you read the polling info? Area Codes 703, and 757 are Obama’s two strongest supporters.

703, NoVa. 757, Tidewater.

The other data is quite telling, but where did they get the populace info? Did they procur it from registered voters? People who entered a contest? Because just given the basics: Race, Sex, Politic Leaning, and Age, doesn’t tell much more than the base line.

Let’s reconvene in 7 years and see what the polls say. I have a feeling some people will be eating their words.

What popularity? The tile of this column is misleading—it suggests that Barack Obama was once very popular in Virginia. He won here only because he carried Fairfax County. He was dogmeat most other parts of the state.
