Towey to run (56 miles) for office
James Towey is literally running for office.
The Democratic candidate for the 56th House of Delegates district will kick off his campaign with a 56-mile, three-day run through the district.
He plans to start the morning of May 29 on the front steps of his northwestern Henrico County home and finish May 31 in the town of Louisa.
For Towey -- challenging Republican incumbent Del. William R. Janis, who has the advantage with both cash and name recognition -- this run offers both an attention-grabbing campaign event and fundraising opportunity.
"I want the citizens of Goochland, Henrico and Louisa to not only know but also to see how serious I am about bringing them energetic representation," he said. "If I am willing to run to see them, I will surely be willing to hop in the car and spend time with them when I become their delegate."
He will run through Short Pump in Henrico; Sabot, Crozier, Maidens, Goochland and Sandy Hook in Goochland County; and Shelfar, Orchid, South Anna, Apple Grove and Cuckoo in Louisa County.
The former director of the Virginia State Crime Commission says he is also running to focus attention on childhood obesity and to show that during tough economic times, he wants to earn, rather than just ask, for political contributions.
