State officials: 43 percent of registered voters cast votes in Nov. election

» 13 Comments | Post a Comment

The results stayed the same but the turnout grew after a certification of the Nov. 3 elections by the State Board of Elections yesterday.

A total of 2,168,574 Virginians voted, or 43.76 percent of the registered voters. Early reports showed the turnout at only about 40 percent. The turnout was slightly less than the 45 percent in 2005, but, because more people are registered, about 168,000 more people voted than four years ago.

Reflecting the strong Republican vote and the weak Democratic vote, the turnout in the counties was 45.47 percent, while in the cities it was 39.81 percent.

Republican Bob McDonnell won the election for governor with 58.6 percent of the vote. His margin over Democrat R. Creigh Deeds of 17.3 percent was the second largest margin in history since the two parties became competitive. In 1993, George Allen had a 17.4 percent winning margin over Democrat Mary Sue Terry.

The closest race was in Virginia Beach's 21st House district, where Democratic Del. Robert W. Mathieson lost to Republican Ron Villanueva by 14 votes out of 15,365 cast. Write-in ballots might have made the difference. Thirty-three were cast.

you are using 56% to show 76%...when in fact the 56% does not care about Obama one way or another. They did not show opposition or support..and you count them as support.  Sounds like you use the same math as the WH.

Only 17% were passionate enough for Obama for that to be a positive thing for Obama and Deeds.

60% of voters voted for McDonnell.

So in fact the only positive influence Obama offered to the election was 17%...a paltry number for our greatest president…don’t you think?

46% of Va voters said the economy was the most important issue and 15% said taxes were.

85% of Va voters are worried about the direction of the economy NEXT year.  Seems they are not happy with how much time Obama is spending on Health Care and not on the Economy.  85% are worried…because Obama has done nothing they feel could help the economy.

Looking at Obama’s most important issues…Socialized health care and that he is raising taxes to pay for that…he does not fall inline with at least 61% of Virginians.  (the poll did not say what were the other issues considered most important)

That is how one loses reelections!  While it is just Va numbers..it shows a dissatisfaction with Obama that reflects a growing trend in the USA.

Google the 2009 election exit poll results and you’ll find my number are correct…you just have funny math to reflect a positive spin for Obama.

Also, don’t bother to ask why 61% have the economy and taxes as the important issue .  While 85% say they are worried about the economy.  Those were posed as two different questions and fall into different stat categories

Loggerhead- What are you talking about? Note the statement which you even went so far as to cite: “a reflection of their opposition”.

100% of voters polled - 24% who voted in opposition to Obama = 76% of people who did not vote in opposition to Obama

17% voted with him as a consideration, according to your own numbers, but as a positive one. I don’t know about the lost 15% who voted with Obama as a factor in their vote but were neither in opposition to or in support of him.

(24% against+ 17% support = 41% Obama factor, 56% Obama not a factor - 41% Obama factor= 15% mystery voters… where did you get these numbers from?)

Either way, these numbers aren’t illustrating the conservative liberal-backlash landslide you’re predicting.  Here’s a math problem:

Q: What’s 24% of 39% of registered voters?

A: Hardly a popular rebuke.

“like that 76% of polled voters did not hold their vote as a reflection of their opposition to the President, might be a good qualifier. “

Uh, you can not say that, it is not accurate.  56% of the votes were not a reflection of Obama’s leadership either way.

I voted against Obama, because he is a retard

With articulation like this, maybe Republicans should be looking at PleaseMrsHenry to replace Michael Steele as the head of the RNC. His insults are the coolest and just wait until he unvails his anti-cootie plan.

“It amazes me how ignorant most liberals are, or at least appear to be… Does Obama, Pelosi, & co really think that Americans are so stupid that we don’t realize the results in VA and NJ are DIRECT reflections of the public’s view on the way they are ruining the country?“-BottomJohn

I don’t know what the criteria are that you’re using to define “ignorance”, or its appearance, but I’d say it would be choosing to ignore factual information, like that 76% of polled voters did not hold their vote as a reflection of their opposition to the President, might be a good qualifier.

I know you really want to believe otherwise, but the numbers seem to contradict what you wish were true. Just be careful how you throw around the “ignorant” label next time you’re fabricating attributions.

56% said Obama was NOT a factor in their vote for our Va Governor.

That is the other percent that I did not post.  24% voted, in part, to show opposition against Obama.  17% voted to show support of Obama.

The numbers were a purely a guess from what I remembered reading.  They were actually something like this:

24% voted in part for Bob to show oposition to Obama’s policies

17% to show support for Obama’s policies

47% said the economy was the most important issues (which is interesting, since the President insist on pushing the Health care bill and not working on the economy)

65% said the thesis issues was no issue

53% said Government is doing too much.

reading the stats it tells me the next election is going to have a lot of voters who are not happy with the current admin who are looking for a smaller less intrusive government.

Loggerhead - Did you make up the stats on the 30-40%? Of that number half were in favor of Obama and half were against - big difference.

It amazes me how ignorant most liberals are, or at least appear to be.  They downplay the results in VA and NJ while celebrating a congressional victory in NY where there wasn’t even a Republican candidate!  Does Obama, Pelosi, & co really think that Americans are so stupid that we don’t realize the results in VA and NJ are DIRECT reflections of the public’s view on the way they are ruining the country?  Anytime they fail to acknowledge the tea parties, protests, or the huge public backlash they’ve received over the health care takeover they put another nail in their coffin!

I personally think they are so deeply committed to socialism in the long run that that they are willing to pass this partisan health care takeover at the cost of losing power in both houses of Congress and the White House in 2012.
