Former President Clinton to campaign for Deeds

Former President Bill Clinton will journey to Virginia Tuesday to campaign for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Creigh Deeds, his campaign staff said today.

Clinton, who previously came to Virginia to campaign for friend and former Democratic primary candidate Terry McAuliffe, is scheduled to campaign with Deeds in Northern Virginia in either Arlington or Alexandria, according to the campaign.

Deeds today will appear with Clinton’s former vice president, Al Gore, at a fundraiser in Northern Virginia.

Despite a healthy fundraising quarter, Deeds trails Republican Bob McDonnell in cash on hand going into the final three weeks before the Nov. 3 election.

What I find a little odd is the fact that the NRA switched from Deeds to backing McDonnell because he promised them he would reverse the bill passed during Wilder’s administration:  One gun purchase per month!!  This bill was voted for by McDonnell, yet Deeds voted against it.  So McDonnell is going to reverse a bill he supported which Deeds had already said he would reverse once he was elected.  What the???

Deeds also said he supports closing the (non-existent) gun show loophole which is a hot button issue among gun rights advocates.  That’s what killed the NRA endorsement for Deeds, not just McDonnell’s decision to reverse his position on the one-gun-a-month law.

JMSB: I’m not offended. I have fun posting on here. Oh, and some of us will NEVER get over the Mason-Dixon line. It’s what makes ‘us’, us as opposed to ‘them’, them. I do wish you could explain how doing the samba is going to improve the country.

Re: bringing up the past…It is probably Preseident G.W. Bush’s fault that BO is not coming to Virginia for Deeds.

Dave…sorry if offended you with a fact in some way.
But everything you just stated is something he the President is working on for what he believes is better for country. Not that I agree or disagree with what the President is doing or not doing.
And here we go again…someone bringing up past Crap….The commonwealth of Virginia is a State within the country of United States. NOT DIXIE LAND! Get over the Mason Dixon line!

JMSB: Time enough to do the samba in the White House. Time enough to jet off to Europe for a little Olympic lobbying. Time enough to give address after address on health care that turns no new ground. None of those are helping Deeds, but indicates where his heart lies - and it is not in Dixie.

Why doesn’t the great BO care about Virginia or Deeds as much as he cared about Chicago getting the olympics?  Could it be his star quality is failing?

I don’t trust McDonnell, there is a lot of behind the doors negotiating going on to get him in office.  I don’t like his record that clearly shows his votes to stifle rights for women.  I also don’t like the “toll boothes” constructed on interestate 95 that will cause Virginians to lose Federal funding for maintenance of that interstate.  In the long run it will cost us more, not less.

Why is Deeds falling behind?  I think someone needs to have a long talk with his so called campaign manager.  He isn’t doing his job.  And stop with the telling us what McDonnel is, we already know.  Tell us more about Deeds, not every voter goes into congressional records to compare these two guys.  If they did, the choice would be clear.

For all those who are saying where is Obama?
According to news this morning, he will be coming to the commonwealth to support Deed’s here soon. Now this came from Mr. Deeds this morning on TV, caught a glimpse of it.
So, just answering questions about where’s Obama? He apparently isnt avoiding him, just not enough time in a day. Just FYI

The absence of Obama has drawn national attention.  There are ONLY 2 gubernatorial elections this November.
The stakes are high.
There are only 2 possibilities why Obama is not stomping for Deeds.  First, we know Biden and Obama came into the Commonwealth early on when the polls were very close.  A week later the polls showed a close to 15% advantage for McDonnell.  Deeds does not to be linked to Obama.
Or Two;  Obama and the DNC see Deeds as an unworthy opponent and do not want to be linked to a failed election bid.
Either way, I haint see the unity that Obama promised us all when he was campaigning.
