KABUL — NATO says Afghan and foreign troops have killed more than 130 insurgents, including eight Taliban commanders, in six days of fierce fighting during a major offensive in northern Afghanistan.

NATO said Monday that 700 members of the Afghan security forces and 50 international troops were involved in a clearing operation in the province of Kunduz. They did not identify the nationality of the international forces involved.

Kunduz, a province which borders Tajikistan, is the main area of operation for German forces. But Lt. Col. Joerg Lange, a spokesman for German forces, said none had been involved in the fighting.

The fighting took place from last week in the Charhar Dara district in Kunduz.
