Iranian-American academic gets 12 years in connection with post-election unrest

TEHRAN, Iran — Iran has convicted an Iranian-American academic for his alleged role in the post-election unrest in the country and sentenced him to more than 12 years in prison.

The state IRNA news agency reported the sentencing of Kian Tajbakhsh on Tuesday. It quotes his lawyer, Houshang Azhari, as confirming he received the verdict.

The attorney says the sentence is “more than 12 years” but the law prohibits him from divulging details.

Washington has repeatedly demanded Tehran free Tajbakhsh, arrested during the crackdown on protesters rallying against Iran’s disputed June presidential election.

Tajkbaksh was the only American who was part of the mass trial of Iranian opposition members. Charges against him reportedly included espionage.

We may not like the sentance, but they have their rules and laws. If you break them then you get punished.  We have no business judging them especially when we put people to death here (they do it as well).

Man what a modern, civilized country Iran is!  Only Obama was smart enough to see this.  He should definitely sit down and try to negotiate with these people.  Stupid Bush for taking a tough stance on Iran, and preserving America’s dignity.

I’m being sarcastic of course.  I think it’s hilarious how BO tried to extend his hand in peace to Iran after all of us conservatives are going “you idiot you can’t negotiate with these animals.“  Sure enough, Ahmadenejad snubs Obama’s invitations and publicly ridicules him.  What a joke.  If his ineptitude wasn’t so scary, I’d be laughing harder.
