More than 4,000 sailors, Marines, deploy for Mediterranean and the Middle East

NORFOLK— More than 4,000 sailors and Marines are set to deploy from Norfolk for the Mediterranean and the Middle East.

The deployment Wednesday involves the Bataan amphibious ready group.

The Navy said the deployment will include the amphibious assault ship Bataan and the amphibious transport dock Ponce, home-ported at Norfolk Naval Station.

The amphibious dock landing ship Fort McHenry is home-ported at Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base.

The deployment includes the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit at Camp Lejeune, N.C.
