BAGHDAD — The U.S. military says an American solider has been killed and two others were wounded when a roadside bomb detonated near their vehicle in northern Iraq.

The military says the Multi-National Division-North soldier was killed on Monday. Two others were wounded in the attack that occurred in Iraq’s northern Ninevah province.

The military said in a statement on Tuesday the name of the soldier is being withheld pending notification of next of kin and that the incident is under investigation.

The death raises to at least 4,351 the number of U.S. military personnel who have died in the Iraq war since it began in March 2003. That’s according to an Associated Press count.
