Central Virginia Crime Statistics

This database tallies homicides, robberies, burglaries, and other crimes compiled by the Virginia State Police for the years 2006, 2007 and 2008 for the 24 localities in the greater Richmond area.

Violent and property crime collectively dropped 1.5 percent in Central Virginia in 2008 despite a worsening recession. Total violent crime decreased by even more -- 3.6 percent -- in the same period. Officials say that's a positive sign, considering that economic downturns tend to trigger increases in certain types of criminal behavior.
