Passenger numbers up at RIC as holiday begins
Thanksgiving holiday passenger traffic at Richmond International Airport is running strong so far despite the economic slowdown. “We’re trending ahead of Thanksgiving last year,“ airport spokesman Troy Bell said.

Airport security fast-lane program closes
Lois Easton showed up at Denver International Airport expecting her usual quick trip through airport security. Instead, she was turned away as screening machines were dismantled around her. She is one of about a quarter-million customers who paid up to $199 a year and turned over detailed personal information in exchange for breezing to the gate—until the company that runs the program, known as Clear, abruptly shut down yesterday.

Plans for Chesterfield airport take shape
Chesterfield County officials are looking to rebrand one of their biggest assets—the county airport. County and economic-development officials and state aviation representatives met last week with design firms to shape plans to create a better sense of identity for the 35-year-old Chesterfield County Airport and its neighboring industrial park.

Bristol revisits airport liability
With plans to form an independent governing authority at Tri-Cities Regional Airport grounded by uncertainty, city leaders plan to seek another source of financial protection. Bristol is one of six local governments sharing ownership of the Blountville, Tenn., -based airport, but the only one not covered by Tennessee’s tort liability insurance. In the event of a judgment in a catastrophic accident or other lawsuit, the city could be found liable for an unlimited amount of money. State insurance caps damages for Tennessee-based governments at $450,000.
