The National Weather Service’s Wakefield station canceled a tornado warning at 11:20 p.m. for parts of Amelia County.

Amelia pedestrian hit by truck, killed
AMELIA—A man walking along U.S. 360 in Amelia County was struck and killed by a pickup truck last night. Virginia State Police Trooper T.G. Watson said Rashmikant Dahyadhai Tatel, 54, of Amelia, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 6 p.m. crash. The fatality occurred when a 1986 Dodge pickup traveling east on 360 struck Tatel about two-tenths of a mile west of U.S. 360 Business, Watson said.

Former magistrate John F. Black dies
When John Franklin Black was appointed Amelia County magistrate in 1975, “the county was small. There were not many people he didn’t know,“ said Amelia Sheriff Ricky Walker. Mr. Black, who served until he suffered two strokes in 2006, “was a people person,“ Walker said. “He just had that way about him, even in his later years. He could put somebody in jail and have them laughing [while they were] walking out the door to jail.“
