Godwin’s girls see themselves in semifinal foe
Today’s game is technically a rematch for the Mills Godwin girls soccer team, though neither team will have anything to avenge. The Eagles will play Frank Cox-Virginia Beach at 4 p.m. in the state semifinals at Westfield High School. Earlier this year a game between the teams was canceled 40 minutes into a 0-0 draw because of what midfielder Anne Lumpkin described as “a swimming pool of a field.“

High school girls soccer preview
season preview Even under new leadership, defending Central Region champion Mills Godwin will still be tough. Former assistant coach Ali Toole takes over for her former coach Rob White, but the Eagles return eight starters from the 17-2 2008 season in which the Eagles reached the state tournament for the sixth year in a row. Toole said the Eagles have not had enough time together as a team, but the players are individually talented technically and athletically.
