Football: Douglas Freeman 34, Atlee 31
Alvin Butler and Douglas Freeman stunned No. 10 Atlee with a 34-31 overtime win. Butler (25 carries, 135 yards) ran a fake punt for 54 yards in the fourth quarter, setting up the Rebels’ tying touchdown and sending the game into overtime. Mac Hudgins then capped off a huge night—15 of 24 passing for 230 yards and three TDs—with the winning 7-yard run for the Rebels (1-2).

Football: Atlee 46, Patrick Henry 7
Hunter Brooks intercepted two passes and recovered a fumble and scored twice on defense to lead the Raiders past the Patriots and register the first 3-0 start in school history. Brooks returned an interception 33 yards for a score in the third quarter then hit paydirt on a 28-yard fumble return to give Atlee a 33-0 lead. Raiders quarterback Dylan Gathright rushed for 63 yards and two touchdowns and completed 13 of 23 passes for 128 yards and a score. Micah Spiers scored three times for Atlee. He rushed for 71 yards and one touchdown on three carries and two of his five catches went for scores.

High school notes
“Technically,“ Atlee football coach Roscoe Johnson said, “we’re supposed to be better next year.“ The Raiders might be ahead of schedule. Atlee, which takes on Patrick Henry this week, is 2-0 for the first time in the school’s 19-year football history. Only four seniors start on each side of the ball, and Johnson said he has some talented players waiting on the JV team.
