Man, 22, from Goode fatally injured in multivehicle crash in Bedford  03/21/09 12:01 AM

Two killed in crashes in Virginia A 22-year-old man was killed in a three-vehicle crash in Bedford County on Wednesday, Virginia State Police said. Cody Allen Campbell of Goode was a passenger in a car that had stopped on U.S. 221 to make a left turn onto state Route 668 when a sport utility vehicle struck it from behind and caused it to go into the opposite lane of traffic, where it struck a bucket truck at 3:13 p.m., police said. The bucket truck overturned and the car went up a small embankment.

Did it live in water or on land? If it lived in water, was it salty or fresh, deep or shallow? Paleontologists use many clues from rocks and fossils to re-create ancient environments. Finding clues in the rocks at the Boxley Blue Ridge Quarry in Bedford County is a good example of using a variety of information to re-create an ancient environment.

Rhode Island man facing sex charges  02/08/09 12:01 AM

Investigators say an interactive video-gaming system provided a virtual meeting place for a 13-year-old Bedford County girl and a Rhode Island man with whom she ran off last week. The man, Andrew Fitzgerald Holloway, 21, has been arrested and charged with felony sex crimes after the discovery of the pair late Wednesday within a mile of the teen’s home.

Homes sought for 31 seized roosters  01/29/09 12:01 AM

Thirty-one roosters seized in a cockfighting investigation could be euthanized if the Bedford County animal shelter can’t find new homes for them. Animal shelter manager Scott Polinek said a Maryland-based sanctuary has taken eight roosters. Homes are being sought for the remaining birds because of expenses related to their care. The Bedford County Sheriff’s Office seized the roosters Dec. 22. Avery Fitzgerald of Coleman Falls was charged with two felony counts of selling the birds for fighting purposes.

Ex-principal’s trial delayed  11/27/08 12:01 AM

The trial for a former school administrator accused of killing his wife last year in her Forest home has been postponed a second time. Wesley Earnest, 38, of Moneta is charged with first-degree murder and use of a firearm in the Dec. 19 slaying of his estranged wife, Jocelyn Earnest. Prosecutors say he staged the scene to appear as if she had committed suicide.
