VCU notes  08/21/09 12:01 AM

Basketball player Larry Sanders has a hearing scheduled for next Friday in Richmond General District Court on a misdemeanor charge of destruction of state property. Sanders damaged a door while horsing around at Ackell Residence Center on March 27, according to VCU Athletics Director Norwood Teague, speaking for university police. Teague said Sanders paid for the damage to the door, an amount that came to about $150.

After draft, Hauser and Gragnani start negotiating  06/11/09 12:01 AM

As the Major League Baseball draft progressed yesterday, representatives for Blake Hauser and Reed Gragnani fielded questions from several teams. Was there any flexibility in the signing-bonus figures they had circulated, the teams wanted to know? Hauser and Gragnani, who have college scholarships waiting, said they held firm to the money they wanted. So teams apparently played it safe and held off drafting them until later rounds: the 25th and 27th, respectively.

Manchester’s Hauser may go in rounds 3-7 of baseball draft  06/09/09 12:01 AM

Blake Hauser thought about accompanying his American Legion teammates to Washington tonight to take in a Nationals game. He’s leaning toward staying at home, though, and watching another Major League Baseball proceeding that affects his future: the draft. Manchester High School’s hard-throwing right-hander may be the state’s highest drafted player when the three-day event gets under way tonight. Two pro scouts who requested anonymity because of club policy said Hauser probably will be taken between the third and seventh rounds.

Baseball preview: More Dominion dominance  03/24/09 12:01 AM

High Schools With the state champion coming out of the Dominion District each of the past three years, there is no reason to believe it won’t happen again. Monacan won it in 2006, and James River won the championship the past two years. The district is wide open and stacked with talent. Manchester, Cosby, Clover Hill and James River all could make a run for it.
