Amelia County couple reunited with stolen dogs  11/13/09 12:01 AM

Two small dogs stolen from an Amelia County couple whose home was ransacked by burglars Wednesday were found yesterday about a block away. John Puryear said he was informed by the sheriff’s department after a neighbor saw dogs that met the description of Nikki, a 3-year-old Yorkshire terrier, and Indy, a 7-year-old Maltese. “They’re cold and freezing, but we have them now,“ Puryear said.

Two arrested in string of Henrico burglaries  08/12/09 12:01 AM

Henrico County police have arrested two suspects in a string of burglaries and larcenies that targeted televisions and video-game systems. Lt. Doug Perry said Henrico police believe the two men were involved in burglaries dating back to February. Both men were arrested Monday shortly after two burglaries and grand larcenies, he said. “We followed them after noticing some suspicious activity,“ Perry said.

Henrico County police have arrested two suspects in a string of West End burglaries and larcenies that targeted televisions and video game systems. Henrico Police Lt. Doug Perry said the two men are believed to be involved in burglaries dating back to February and that both men were arrested yesterday shortly after two burglaries and grand larcenies.

Suspect arrested in break-ins  07/23/09 12:01 AM

Henrico County police said yesterday that they have arrested a Richmond man they believe was responsible for as many as 40 office break-ins dating to February. In addition, Chesterfield County police have charged Cornelius Baker, 43, of the 1700 block of Peter Paul Boulevard with two break-ins there. Henrico police spokesman Lt. Doug Perry said that Baker was followed by Henrico undercover agents July 1 when he was spotted trying to enter an office within the Boulders office complex off Midlothian Turnpike near the city line.

Brothers arrested in Waynesboro church break-ins  06/12/09 12:01 AM

Media General News Service Waynesboro police arrested two brothers yesterday on charges of breaking into three churches and stealing cash, cameras, a mirror and a laptop. Stephen P. Bakaitis, 23, and, Joshua T. Bakaitis, 21, each face charges of grand larceny, destruction of property, petty larceny and grand larceny for break-ins at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Valley Pastoral Counseling and Bethany Lutheran Church from March 14 to March 19.

Richmond 911 system leads way  06/02/09 12:01 AM

During a recent break-in, Richmond police summoned by a burglar alarm were able to arrive on the scene quickly enough to find the intruder still inside. The faster police response stemmed from a new system used to notify Richmond’s E-911 center when an alarm goes off in a home or business. But in the city and throughout the nation, most alarm alerts still require a phone call and a two-to-three-minute verbal exchange between an alarm company and a 911 call-taker before help is sent.

Henrico investigates commercial burglaries  04/08/09 12:01 AM

Henrico County police are investigating a rash of commercial burglaries at office parks in the Willow Lawn, Parham and Glen Forest areas. Lt. Doug Perry said 16 break-ins have been reported since Feb. 21, and in almost all, an office building was accessed through an unlocked exterior door during the overnight hours. Once inside, thieves pried open interior office doors to gain access to individual businesses.

Burglary reported at Richmond home where man was found shot  04/04/09 12:01 AM

Twelve hours after someone was found shot to death at a house in South Richmond yesterday morning, police were called to the same address for a reported burglary. Homicide detectives and forensics technicians had completed their work at the house in the 600 block of Effingham Drive and left the scene by the time a neighbor called police at 1:10 p.m. to report a burglary.

Four arrested in Hanover break-ins  01/29/09 12:01 AM

Hanover County investigators have arrested two men and two women in a string of daytime residential break-ins in the county’s Beaverdam area, authorities announced yesterday. The break-ins took place between Dec. 31 and Jan. 7. They happened in the 1900 block of Hewlett Road, the 14000 block of Verdon Road and the 16000 and 17000 blocks of Goshen Road, authorities said.
