Commercial real estate focus of talk at trends conference
Don’t look for commercial real estate values to rebound any time soon. They won’t recover next month or next year, said Sally Gordon, a managing director at BlackRock, a global investment management firm. “In this cycle, commercial real estate values have fallen much farther and faster than ever before,“ she said. They lost more value in the past five quarters than in the past five years - “and we’re not done.“

Ex-CIA chief Woolsey to speak on energy, security
Former CIA Director R. James Woolsey is scheduled to speak Thursday in Richmond on how energy innovations might affect U.S. security and the war against terrorism. Woolsey, who served as director of central intelligence from 1993 to 1995, is now a partner with the venture capital firm VantagePoint Venture Partners, which invests in clean technology, health care and information-technology businesses. He also speaks and writes frequently on U.S. security and has advocated the development of alternative energy sources and transportation, such as electric hybrid vehicles, to reduce U.S. dependence on foreign oil.
