Employment-transition center opens in Henrico
Joseph Murray could see the end coming for his job as a data processor for Bank of America in Henrico County. The banking giant had announced in December that it would cut as many as 35,000 jobs worldwide. Murray had been with the company about two years and data-processing jobs had been moving to India, so he wasn’t surprised when he was among a dozen people laid off Feb. 12.

Center to help region’s laid-off workers opens today in Henrico
A new option opens today for thousands of people who have lost their jobs in the Richmond area. The Capital Region Employment Transition Center will begin helping displaced workers from eight localities—Richmond and the counties of Henrico, Chesterfield, Hanover, Goochland, Powhatan, New Kent and Charles City. The center will operate each weekday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 4060 Innslake Drive, in the former Innsbrook Public Library in western Henrico. The phone number for the center is (804) 273-6260.
