The Schwarzschild Jewelers store in Carytown is moving after 54 years. The location at 3124 W. Cary St., which opened Nov. 5, 1954, will move a few doors down to the spot last occupied by Carytown Wine & Beer at 3144 W. Cary. But it will remain in the Cary Court Shopping Center. Carytown Wine & Beer closed in February. The jeweler is tentatively scheduled to open the new store Dec. 11. The current store remains open.

Ringing in a chilly, blustery new year in Carytown  12/31/07 12:01 AM

A few hundred people, most of them appearing happily sober, populated the sidewalks of Carytown early last night waiting for the big lighted ball to be hoisted above the Byrd Theatre. As many as 20,000 people were expected for Carytown’s third New Year’s Eve party, but the crowd appeared well below that with four hours to go. Some 4,000 attended the first event and last year’s crowd was estimated at 14,000.
