High School notes
Predetermined pairings match the Capital against the Dominion and the Central vs. the Colonial districts in the first round. Cosby and Thomas Dale, the top two girls teams in the T-D Top 10, are in opposite brackets and could meet in the final. All championship games for the Capital, Central, Colonial and Dominion district basketball tournaments are Feb. 19.

VHSCA cites Thomas Dale’s Green and Williams
Airek Green of Thomas Dale is the Group AAA defensive player of the year, and Knights coach Vic Williams is the coach of the year as selected by the Virginia High School Coaches Association football coaches. Thomas Dale became the first Central Region team to win a Division 6 state championship last December. Green, a defensive back, was joined on the first team by teammates Mike Dudley (tight end) and Brian Richardson (defensive lineman).

Type text of update here. Will Johnston (32 points) scored 20 of Midlothian’s 27 fourth-quarter points in the Trojans’ Dominion District victory over Huguenot. Wes Justis scored 22 points for Midlothian, which overcame a two-point deficit when the Falcons went cold from the field in the third quarter. Huguenot hurt its cause by going just 12 of 22 from the line.

Ka’lia Johnson scored 26 points and delivered two key assists down the stretch to lead Thomas Dale to victory in the quarterfinals of The Times-Dispatch Invitational basketball tournament at the Siegel Center today.
