Charles City County civic leader Harmon White dies at 88
When his daughter was in the eighth grade, Harmon White took her out of an all-black school in Ruthville in 1965 and enrolled her in nearby Charles City County School, which had integrated just the year before. “I didn’t understand why he was moving me. He said, ‘Trust me. It’s a good thing.‘ I didn’t want to go,“ said his daughter, Saundra Quiero of Hampton.

Henrico The Henrico County Health Department is seeking 100 more volunteers for Sunday’s drill to test the county’s plan to dispense emergency medication in response to a bioterrorism event or a disease outbreak. The exercise will take place from 6-7 p.m. at CVS Pharmacy, 9501 Woodman Road. Registration has been extended to Friday. Saved eagle takes off in Charles City
The 10-month-old bald eagle expanded his wings and soared into the gray skies over historic Westover Plantation on the James River in Charles City County. Less than two weeks ago, the bird had been found at a Suffolk Island landfill, dehydrated and suffering from pesticide poisoning.
