Richmond mother gets 2 months in DUI and neglect case
Sharon B. Wood admitted to years of alcohol abuse and self-medication efforts even as friends and family testified at her sentencing hearing that, by all accounts, she seemed to be a devoted mother who rarely drank. The mother of three young children tearfully recounted years of pain when her “anxiety and depression spiraled out of control,“ and she told Judge Catherine C. Hammond of Henrico County Circuit Court that she cherished her family.

Man convicted in boy’s shooting death
Henrico County authorities believe the shooting death of a 2-year-old boy in January was an accident and that convictions in the case yesterday will end prosecutions in the matter. There was no physical evidence of who shot Kristofer L. Jefferson in an eastern Henrico home filled with children and with a long history of violent conduct.

Henrico woman charged with child neglect, assaulting a police officer
A 34-year-old western Henrico County woman is facing two assault charges against a police officer and a charge of child neglect. Henrico police said Mary Ann Joslin of the 5300 block of Stone Horse Road in the Shady Grove Estates subdivision was arrested after police were called to her residence Saturday shortly before 9 p.m. According to police reports, Joslin is accused of striking and spitting on a police officer after refusing to obey orders to surrender an infant child.

Henrico County police say they are carefully assessing witness statements in Sunday’s shooting death of 2-year-old Kristofer L. Jefferson, whose grandmother was ordered held without bond yesterday. “We are trying to determine exactly what happened and are not certain at this point that we know for a fact what did happen,“ said Henrico police Lt. Doug Perry, who stressed that forensic evidence in the case is critical.

Mother of dead Prince William girl is charged
Authorities have charged a Prince William County woman in connection with the discovery of her 13-year-old daughter’s body. Alfreedia Gregg-Glover, 44, is charged with felony child neglect and filing a false police report in the disappearance and death of Alexis Glover. More than 300 law-enforcement officers and volunteer searchers helped look for the teenager after she was reported missing Jan. 7.
