Skyhawks set themselves apart from Dominion district
L.C. Bird didn’t feel the need to prove anything against Clover Hill’s big defensive lineman, Mo Gross. In fact, the team ran away from him. It proved to be a winning strategy as the Skyhawks sprinted to an early lead, then let their defense shut down the Cavaliers in a 27-3 romp. Now at 5-0 in district play, the Skyhawks both avoided a tie for first and, thanks to Manchester’s victory, put two games between themselves and the competition in the Dominion.

Derrick Wells intercepted a pass for a touchdown and Joel Caleb carried the offense to give the Cavaliers a Dominion District win over the Lancers. Terrell Hackney put Manchester (2-2, 3-3) ahead with a 35-yard touchdown pass to Donald Holmes in the first quarter. After Wells’ interception and Caleb’s two-point run gave Clover Hill the lead, Hackney found Brandon Briggs (54 yards) for an 8-yard score to give the Lancers the lead again. Hackney finished with 116 yards passing, but the Lancers only totaled 222 yards.
