High school volleyball notes: It’s Titans’ turn again at No.1
Big Monday among the top boys volleyball teams in the Central Region produced a new No.1 team in the RVC/Times-Dispatch Top 10. Cosby, which is unbeaten in the Dominion District and has a seven-match winning streak, ascended to No.1 after beating then top-ranked Thomas Dale in four games. Atlee beat Clover Hill in four games, and Deep Run defeated James River in four in Monday’s other matches involving the former top six teams.

Football: Clover Hill 26, Midlothian 7
Quarterback Joel Caleb rushed for 130 yards and a pair of touchdowns and threw for 62 yards and a score as the Cavaliers thumped the Trojans in a Dominion District contest. Clover Hill (1-1, 2-1) received an opportunistic performance from its defense, which forced four Midlothian turnovers. Dimitri Evans returned one Trojans fumble 32 yards for a touchdown. Mo Gross returned another for 15 yards.

Hoepner sparks Titans’ victory
In a game that was mostly dominated by both defenses, a couple of huge plays by Cosby quarterback Fuller Hoepner made the difference against rival Clover Hill. Hoepner set up the host Titans’ first-quarter field goal with a 54-yard run, then threw two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter as Cosby pulled away for a 17-0 Dominion District victory.
