Rams’ Andrews: a slanted perspective
For VCU pitcher Robbie Andrews, changing his delivery 25 percent has made a 100 percent difference in how he feels. The rising senior appeared in 17 games for the Rams last year, finishing with a 5.56 ERA. That’s when he decided it was time for something new. “I kind of took my career into my hands on this one,“ he said. Changing from a sidearm delivery to a three-quarters one, he’s mowing down opponents in the Coastal Plain League, where he’s the closer for the No. 1 summer-league team in America, the Forest City (N.C.) Owls.

Petersburg Generals aiming to fill a void
Without the Richmond Braves in town for the first time since 1966, the highest level of baseball in Central Virginia this year is the Petersburg Generals of the Coastal Plain League. The 14-team CPL involves college players with eligibility remaining, wood bats, and competition from late-May to early-August. The Generals will play their 29 home games at the Petersburg Sports Complex (capacity of 2,500). They averaged 715 fans at that venue last season, according to Jeremy Toombs, the Generals’ general manager.
