Field hockey: Warrens spark Manchester past Monacan
The Warren duo of Caitlyn and Courtlyn helped pace Manchester to a 4-2 win over Monacan in the opening round of the Dominion District girls field hockey tournament yesterday. Caitlyn’s first goal came in the first half for the fifth-seeded Lancers, and Courtlyn and Samantha White added scores to Warren’s in the second. Goalkeeper Alexis Meyers had five saves for the Lancers.

Football: No. 3 Hermitage 40, Douglas Freeman 0
Hermitage’s Easton Gordon rushed 13 times for 129 yards and two TDs in No. 3 Hermitage’s (4-0 Colonial, 6-1) victory over Douglas Freeman (1-3, 2-5). Brendan Riddick completed 7 of 10 passes for 131 yards and two touchdowns for the Panthers.

Football: Mills Godwin 36, Thomas Jefferson 12
Dane Forlines passed for two touchdowns and Derek Whitaker ran for two to lead the Eagles to a Colonial District victory. Dylan Forlines led Mills Godwin (2-2, 3-4) on the ground with 86 yards and a touchdown on six carries. David Carabati led the defense with 12 tackles, four tackles for loss, one fumble recovery and two sacks. Quarterback Marvin Robinson completed 21-of-38 passes for 289 yards and two touchdowns for Thomas Jefferson (0-4, 0-7). Darius Simpson had five catches for 128 yards and a score.
Football: Deep Run 23, Patrick Henry 7
Holden Bass returned a punt 52 yards for a touchdown and finished off a stellar Deep Run defensive performance with a 36-yard interception return in the Wildcats’ Colonial District victory. The Patriots (2-2, 2-5) had four turnovers and managed just 58 yards total offense. Their only score was a 48-yard punt return by Brian Houchens. Dallas Simmons rushed for 117 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries, and placekicker Sarah Bradley booted her fourth field goal in two weeks for Deep Run (3-1, 4-3).
High school football: J.R.Tucker-JM game time changed
The J.R. Tucker at John Marshall football game scheduled for a 1 p.m. start Saturday at John Marshall has been moved up to 11:30 a.m. John Marshall athletic director Cutt Cole said the change was made to beat the thundershowers forecast for Saturday afternoon.
