L.C. Bird keeps streak alive with win  10/10/09 12:01 AM

L.C. Bird’s multi-year winning streak in the Dominion District is intact for another week. The latest Skyhawks victory, 21-14 at Cosby last night, extended the run of regular-season district “W’s” to 19. They have won 39 of 40 since early in 2003. The loss was 14-13 to Huguenot in 2006. Ranked No. 2 in The Times-Dispatch Top 10, L.C. Bird is 3-0 in the district and 5-0 overall. The sixth-ranked Titans, in their first year in Division 6, dropped to 3-1, 4-1.

High school volleyball notes: It’s Titans’ turn again at No.1  10/08/09 12:01 AM

Big Monday among the top boys volleyball teams in the Central Region produced a new No.1 team in the RVC/Times-Dispatch Top 10. Cosby, which is unbeaten in the Dominion District and has a seven-match winning streak, ascended to No.1 after beating then top-ranked Thomas Dale in four games. Atlee beat Clover Hill in four games, and Deep Run defeated James River in four in Monday’s other matches involving the former top six teams.

Fuller Hoepner was 7 of 10 for 143 yards and three TDs, Bryce Dillon tallied 106 yards on four reception, and No. 7 Cosby (3-0, 4-0) beat Midlothian (0-3, 0-4) in a Dominion District matchup. Jainard Crawley-Lambert added 83 yards rushing for the Titans and pulled down three tosses for another 37 yards. Nate Hines had 88 yards on 13 carries for the Trojans.

Football: No. 7 Cosby 21, James River 14  09/25/09 11:08 PM

Quarterback Fuller Hoepner scored his second touchdown of the evening on a 7-yard scamper with 32.5 seconds remaining to lift the seventh-ranked Titans past the Rapids. Hoepner carried 17 times for 112 yards and two touchdowns for the winners (2-0 Dominion District, 3-0). He completed 14 of 17 passes for 99 yards. His passing performance included a pair of interceptions.
