Job-seekers beware: There’s a new warning on Craigslist.com. The Web site recently posted a scam alert, telling applicants to be on the lookout for bogus ads that promise work that doesn’t exist. “The ones that sound too good to be true, they usually are,“ said Kevin Jackson, chief investigator for Florida’s Hillsborough County Consumer Protection Agency.

Craigslist robbery charges dismissed  10/01/09 12:01 AM

A Richmond judge yesterday dismissed charges against three people accused in an alleged Craigslist robbery. Authorities say yesterday’s testimony by the accuser differed from what he had earlier told police. General District Judge Phillip L. Hairston ruled that probable cause did not exist to certify the charges to a grand jury. Charges of robbery were dismissed against Jessica A. Rice, 22, of Chesterfield County and Saesar D. Lanier, 33, of Richmond. A firearm charge was dismissed against John S. Olsen, 25, of Chesterfield.

N.C. rape suspect appears in court  06/16/09 12:01 AM

A man charged with raping a woman whose husband is accused of arranging the encounter on Craigslist appeared in a North Carolina court yesterday and was appointed a defense lawyer. Last year in Chesterfield County, the husband pleaded guilty to flashing a pizzadelivery woman at a hotel in the Chester area. Court officials said Rodney Liverman Sr., 39, of Norwood made a firstappearance hearing in Cabarrus County District Court. He was given a courtappointed lawyer and ordered held under $250,000 bond.

Police say a 68-year-old Henrico County man has been charged with exposing himself to a woman he lured to his house by placing an advertisement on Craigslist for a home nurse. David M. Fuller of the 2100 block of Kelly Ridge Road was arrested after a 57-year-old Henrico woman went to his house May 24 in response to his ad. Police said Fuller left his front door slightly open and called for her to come inside, where she found Fuller naked and touching himself, police said.

Man with prior conviction in Chesterfield is accused of having wife raped  06/05/09 9:42 PM

A North Carolina man charged this week with arranging on Craigslist for his wife to be raped by another man pleaded guilty in Chesterfield County last year to flashing a pizza delivery woman at a Chester-area hotel. The man, 25, was given a 30-day suspended jail term on his conviction of misdemeanor indecent exposure at a motel in the 1900 block of West Hundred Road, court records show. The Richmond Times-Dispatch is not identifying the man to avoid identifying his wife.

Online classified ads site Craigslist will get rid of its controversial “erotic services” category that critics called a front for prostitution, replacing it with an adult category reviewed by Web site employees, state attorneys general announced Wednesday.

With just a few clicks of the mouse, local residents looking for female companionship last Friday could find a “Sexy Busty” girl who promised to “make your dreams come true” if you’d call to meet her somewhere on West Broad Street.

The other day Henrico police nabbed eight people in a prostitution sting out near the airport. The undercover officer posing as a customer contacted escort services listed in the phone book and on Craigslist. Craigslist, an Internet company offering free online classified advertising, maintains an Erotic Services section. According to Cook County, Ill., Sheriff Thomas Dart, who has filed a federal lawsuit against Craigslist’s owners, “Craigslist is the single largest source of prostitution in the nation.“ News reports have cited ads offering “erotic wrestling,“ “sensual massage,“ and other services—with photos not suitable for printing in what are commonly referred to as family newspapers.
