Romo crashes back to earth  01/18/10 12:01 AM

MINNEAPOLIS - All those big-game demons that Tony Romo supposedly vanquished last week resurfaced at the worst possible time for the Dallas Cowboys. Romo lost two of his three fumbles and threw an interception to seal the Cowboys’ fate in a 34-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC divisional playoffs yesterday. Romo completed 22 of 35 passes for 198 yards, but the best individual season of his career was brought to a crashing halt. The Vikings sacked him six times and pressured him often. One of the enduring images of the day will be Romo slamming his fist to the turf in frustration as the game slipped away.

NFC playoffs: Cowboys-Vikings preview  01/17/10 12:01 AM

DALLAS (12-5) AT MINNESOTA (12-4) Time: 1 p.m. Line: Vikings by 2½ On the air: TV—Fox; radio—WRNL (910), 12:30 Inside slant: To Vikings fans, the Cowboys’ 13-year playoff drought didn’t seem so long. Dallas has five rings, five more than Minnesota, which hasn’t been to the Super Bowl since 1977. The Vikings usually find a way to self-destruct in big games. If the peaking Cowboys put serious heat on QB Brett Favre, his long-awaited meltdown could happen.

Favre, Romo still have critics to convert  01/17/10 12:01 AM

MINNEAPOLIS Brett Favre’s performance this season for Minnesota has defied much skepticism. He still has work to do. When the Vikings take the field for today’s playoff game against the Dallas Cowboys, the pressure for Favre to deliver a victory will never be more clear. “I know how difficult it is to get here. I know how difficult it is to go on,“ Favre said. “I’m sure that’s one of the reasons why I’m here, is to help this team advance.“

Changed Cowboys eye division title

Jerry Jones flew home from last year’s finale in Philadelphia vowing to change the Dallas Cowboys. Although he considered that club as talented as any of his Super Bowl championship teams, they sure didn’t play like it. Torn apart by petty jealousies and personal glory, they not only blew a chance to cruise into the playoffs, they wound up missing out entirely after getting stomped 44-6 by the Eagles.
