Williams, Wilson deliver backfield punch for Tech
BLACKSBURG Virginia Tech has now played 1,131 games in its 115-plus seasons of football. Never, until Saturday, had two players each rushed for at least 160 yards in the same game. Does that crown the tailbacks who did it, redshirt freshman Ryan Williams and true freshman David Wilson, as the Hokies’ next legendary backfield duo? Not yet.

Tech may be ready to return to a shuttle system at running back
BLACKSBURG Tony Kennedy and Vaughn Hebron sat in their hotel room on Friday nights, talking about what they saw in that week’s film-study sessions, and where they might find holes in an opponent’s defense the next day. During games, when they formed Virginia Tech’s platooning tailback tandem, they stood on the sideline between series and told each other tendencies they noticed from the defense. Kennedy, who was 5-11 and 210 pounds, brought power to “run over the top of you,“ he said. Hebron, 5-8 and 185 pounds, possessed shiftiness to “stop on a dime like Gale Sayers and cut that thing,“ Kennedy said.

Back-flipping freshman high-gear addition to Tech’s offense
BLACKSBURG The 4-year-old boy’s eyes caught the images flickering across his family’s television screen: gymnasts back-flipping across a mat. He had never seen anything like it before. A short time later, he snuck into the back yard, where his dad couldn’t see him, and tried mimicking the gymnasts. By the end of that day, as the boy remembers now, he called his dad out to the yard, where, for the first time, someone watched David Wilson do a back flip.
