HIGH SCHOOL NOTES: VHSL proposing playoff changes  10/24/08 12:01 AM

The Virginia High School League is in the process of shaking up its enrollment classification system that has been in place since 1970-71. The VHSL will present a proposal that will change the league’s division playoff format for sports and academic activities at the fall membership meeting in Charlottesville on Tuesday. The new format would replace the current classifications (Group A, AA, AAA) with a five-division state playoff format. If the change is approved, it would go into effect in the next redistricting and reclassification cycle beginning 2011-12.

A man of steal  10/11/08 12:01 AM

The football was the only thing on Pierre Hawkes’ horizon. Dinwiddie’s senior defensive saw the pass leave the Thomas Dale backup quarterback’s hand. As it came to his side of the field on the Knights sideline, it got bigger and bigger. By the time Hawkes rose up in front of receiver Jeremy Coleman and wrapped his gloves around the ball, it was positively huge.
