Football: Midlothian 30, Armstrong 14
Jimmy Whitten threw two touchdown passes and the Trojans defeated the Wildcats in a nondistrict matchup. Whitten finished 4 for 5 for 44 yards, Nate Hines made 23 carries for 106 yards and a TD and Mitchell Perierra had 20 carries for 146 yards for Midlothian (1-5). Malcolm Cook paced Armstrong (1-5) with 9 carries for 76 yards and a score. He also was 4 for 11 for 83 yards and a touchdown. Tyee Williams carried nine times for 54 yards, and ran in a 51-yard score from Cook.

Football: James River 23, Manchester 16
Conlan Cassidy’s eight tackles and three deflections, and Zac Blackwell’s five tackles and two sacks helped unranked James River beat No. 8 Manchester to 16 points as the Rapids (2-2 Dominion, 3-2) upset the Lancers (2-1, 3-2). James River’s Jessie Wells blocked a punt on the Manchester 26-yard-line to set up the Rapids’ third score, a 1-yard TD run by twin brother Josh.
L.C. Bird keeps streak alive with win
L.C. Bird’s multi-year winning streak in the Dominion District is intact for another week. The latest Skyhawks victory, 21-14 at Cosby last night, extended the run of regular-season district “W’s” to 19. They have won 39 of 40 since early in 2003. The loss was 14-13 to Huguenot in 2006. Ranked No. 2 in The Times-Dispatch Top 10, L.C. Bird is 3-0 in the district and 5-0 overall. The sixth-ranked Titans, in their first year in Division 6, dropped to 3-1, 4-1.

L.C. Bird’s multi-year winning streak in the Dominion District is intact for another week. The latest Skyhawks’ victory, 21-14 at Cosby last night, extended the run of regular-season district “W’s” to 19. They have won 39 of 40 since early in 2003. The loss was 14-13 to Huguenot in 2006. Football: Clover Hill 37, George Wythe 2
Joel Caleb rushed for a 46-yard TD and threw for a 3-yard score as the Cavaliers defeated the Bulldogs. Caleb finished with 65 yards rushing, and was 4 for 8 passing for 40 yards. Doug Tyler had eight carries for 28 yards and two touchdowns for Clover Hill (2-1 Dominion, 4-1). Christian Conklin added a 29 yard punt return for a score. Josh Reavis led the defensive charge with four solo tackles, one for loss, one interception for 12 yards and one pass defelction. Connor Donnelly added three solo tackles, including one for loss and one pass deflection.
Football: Monacan 28, Midlothian 7
Dexter Montgomery ran for two touchdowns and quarterback Logan Staib threw for two to lead the Chiefs to a Dominion District victory. Staib completed 6 of 10 passes for 139 yards. Quin Bracey caught an 81-yard scoring pass and Kevin Walker had four catches for 62 yards and a TD. Chris Turner had nine tackles for Monacan (2-2 Dominion, 2-3). Midlothian fell to 0-4, 0-5.

High school volleyball notes: It’s Titans’ turn again at No.1
Big Monday among the top boys volleyball teams in the Central Region produced a new No.1 team in the RVC/Times-Dispatch Top 10. Cosby, which is unbeaten in the Dominion District and has a seven-match winning streak, ascended to No.1 after beating then top-ranked Thomas Dale in four games. Atlee beat Clover Hill in four games, and Deep Run defeated James River in four in Monday’s other matches involving the former top six teams.
