High school notes
Deep Run is searching for a varsity girls basketball coach. Shawna Duda, who started the program when the school opened in 2002, has stepped down to spend more time with her family. “I might get back into coaching sometime,“ Duda said. “My daughter [Savannah] is 15 months old and is a blast to play with.“ She missed a couple of weeks in February 2008 to give birth.

Erin Anderson Deep Run, softball What she did: One of the returning starters from last year’s Central Region championship team, Anderson helped the Wildcats remain undefeated and ranked No.1 in the T-D Top 10 with Colonial District victories over Mills Godwin, Douglas Freeman and Maggie Walker GS. The Wildcats’ catcher, she was 2 for 4 and scored twice against Godwin; she had a home run and scored twice against Freeman and was 1 for 2 and scored four runs against Maggie Walker. Age: 17 Three words your friends would use to describe you: “Crazy, dedicated, passionate.“ Strengths: “I’m pretty good at keeping everyone together. I make being a team a priority.“ Toughest opponent other than yourself: “Lee-Davis, an overall good team. You usually play a low-scoring, short game with them.“ I’m working to improve: “My swing [which one works best]; not being a serious leader all the time.“ Favorite food: “Any chocolate.“ Favorite ice cream: Midnight Truffle Blizzard from Dairy Queen. Best sports memory: “There was a game when Coach Brown [Stu, who is now Varina’s football coach] was waving runners home and fell down.“ Biggest challenge: “My indecisiveness. I need to focus on making committed decisions.“ If you had one wish: “I love kids. I want to be a missionary and help impoverished children.“ Possession you can’t do without: “Love Bandit [doll].“ College plans: “JMU second semester. I’m going to Costa Rica [mission trip] for three months before that.“ What’s on your iPod: “I don’t have one.“ Facebook or MySpace: “I don’t do either. Or Twitter.
