Girls player of the week: Erin Layne
Erin Layne Midlothian/ Soccer What she did: Layne, a junior who was first-team All-Metro last season, scored two goals to help the Trojans defeat Cosby 4-3. Two days later, she scored the game’s only goal in a victory over James River. The two wins moved the Trojans to the top of the Dominion District standings. Age: 16 Three words your friends would use to describe you: “Clumsy, nice, funny.“ Strengths: “Motivation, leadership, my attacking and scoring abilities.“ Toughest opponent other than yourself: “Becca Wann (Cosby and a good friend). She is so unpredictable, you always have to be on guard.“ I’m working to improve: “Be more versatile with attacking and to help my teammates out more.“ Favorite food: “I can eat anything, but I love Mexican.“ Favorite ice cream: “Anything with chocolate.“ Best sports memory: “My freshman year I scored two goals in a minute to win a game against Manchester.“ Biggest challenge: “Being consistent and being there for my team.“ If she had one wish: “Take my team to states.“ Possession you can’t do without: “My cell phone.
