  • Thursday did not resemble a dashing-through-the-snow print from Currier & Ives, but even those who annually dream of a white Christmas cannot have been disappointed. For all its torments and tribulations, our world is a beautiful one.
  • Speaking of seasonal cheer: The Jefferson remains one of Richmond’s sugar plums. Christmas Eve saw the hotel’s public spaces festive and full. Friends gathered, and happily ran into other friends. There is still time to enjoy the decorations—not only at the Jefferson but throughout Central Virginia. Vulgarity occurs, and commercialization often mocks the message, but when people see lights and displays (including those without explicit religious references), they remember the source and their souls are refreshed.
