10 killed in holiday-weekend crashes in Va.  07/07/09 12:01 AM

Virginia State Police responded to 562 highway crashes over the July Fourth weekend that left a total of 10 people dead. One of the fatalities was in Henrico County and involved a bicyclist. A fatality in Chesterfield County involved a motorcycle, in which the rider was wearing a helmet, police said. The 10 deaths for the Friday-to-Sunday reporting period match the same number of deaths as last year’s four-day holiday weekend.

Chesterfield man killed in crash  04/16/09 12:01 AM

A Chesterfield County man was killed Saturday when the car he was driving veered off Grove Hill Road in Chesterfield and overturned, police said. Killed was Scott P. McCumber, 43, who lived on Coalbrook Drive. Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the 3:50 a.m. crash.

6 die on Va. highways; 2 pedestrians killed  04/02/09 12:01 AM

A tow truck spun out of control Monday on Interstate 81 in Montgomery County, killing the driver. State police said Richard Anthony Woodward, 63, of Rosedale, Md., died at the scene at 1:09 p.m. and was not wearing a seat belt. His northbound truck left the interstate 4 miles north of U.S. 11, entered the median and then spun back to the right side of the road, ejecting the driver, police said.

Two die in separate traffic accidents  03/01/09 2:01 AM

A man was killed yesterday in a single-vehicle wreck in Henry County. Shedrick Damaine Barner, 21, of Bassett was driving south on U.S. 220, five-tenths of a mile north of state Route 689, when the car ran off the road to the right and struck an embankment and some trees at 5:21 a.m., police said. Barner, who was not wearing a seat belt, died at the scene, police said.

Deadly I-95 crash shuts road for hours  12/02/08 12:01 AM

One person was killed and seven others were injured in a fiery multi-vehicle crash that prompted Virginia State Police to close a stretch of Interstate 95 in Prince George County for several hours yesterday. Two people seriously injured were taken by helicopters to VCU Medical Center. The crash occurred about 10:30 a.m. and forced the closure of the interstate in both directions.
