Henrico man faces DUI count  09/14/09 12:01 AM

Henrico County police have charged a county man with driving under the influence after a two-car collision that killed one man and sent nine others to area hospitals. The collision Saturday at 9:40 p.m. occurred after an eastbound car on Williamsburg Road swerved to avoid a motor scooter pulling away from Klockner Drive. The car, driven by Jerome J. Lewis, 25, of the 2200 block of Brockway Lane, crossed the center line and collided with an oncoming sport utility vehicle, authorities said.

Chester crash fatal to motorcyclist  04/26/09 12:01 AM

Chesterfield County police are investigating a two-vehicle crash that killed a motorcyclist in Chester yesterday. Police Lt. Mike Louth said the motorcycle was traveling north in the 11300 block of Chester Road, south of Paces Ferry Road, when it collided with a dump truck pulling onto the road shortly before 2 p.m. The truck was loaded with mulch and pulling out of a business, Louth said.

Chesterfield County police are investigating a two-vehicle crash that killed a motorcyclist in Chester yesterday. Damon Welle, 19, of the 9000 block of Lost Forest Drive was killed when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a dump truck shortly before 2 p.m., according to police. Welle was traveling north in the 11300 block of Chester Road, south of Paces Ferry Road, when he collided with the truck, which was pulling out of a private drive, said police Lt. Mike Louth.

1 killed, 1 hurt in helicopter crash Authorities in northeastern North Carolina say an instructor pilot died and a student was seriously injured in a helicopter crash on the campus of the private security contractor Xe, pronounced “Zee.“ Currituck County spokesman Randall Edwards said the crash occurred yesterday at 1:33 p.m. He said one person was pronounced dead at the scene, and a second was taken to a hospital in nearby Chesapeake, Va., with serious injuries.

Richmond police identify Gilpin Court shooting victim as Randy W. Crawford  02/22/09 12:01 AM

Richmond police yesterday identified Randy W. Crawford, 44, as the man shot to death Friday in the Gilpin Court public-housing development. Police received a call reporting shots fired in the 100 block of West Federal Street about 6:45 p.m. When officers arrived, they found a man shot on the front porch of a home. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said Crawford lived in the 2900 block of Peabody Lane.

Man pleads guilty to Henrico hit and run

A Henrico man was taken to jail this morning after pleading guilty to charges that he killed a 66-year-old man on a motor scooter in a hit and run last year. Leonard Ledbetter Jr. agreed to begin serving a sentence today that will be formally determined at a hearing April 22. Testimony from Henrico Investigator J.R. Howard showed that Ledbetter was traveling at least 74 mph Sept. 28 on Azalea Avenue near Henrico High School when his car struck a scooter operated by Calvin Archer. Archer was returning to a sister’s home from choir practice.

Henrico man dies in crash of SUV  01/19/09 12:01 AM

A Henrico County man died yesterday when the sport utility vehicle he was driving crashed, ejecting him, state police said. Paul F. Lassiter, 31, of 10400 block of Silverbrook Drive died at VCU Medical Center about seven hours after the 2:16 a.m. crash. He was not wearing a seat belt, Virginia State Police said. Lassiter’s vehicle was traveling west on Church Road when it ran off the right side of the road and then the left side before overturning about 200 feet west of Loreines Landing Lane.

Henrico County police arrested a woman named as a person of interest in the death of another young woman at an apartment fire Wednesday.
