GRTC driver faces charge
The driver involved in Wednesday’s fatal GRTC Transit System bus accident in downtown has been charged with reckless driving, Richmond police said last night. Police identified her as Teresa L. Jones, 46, of the 100 block of West 22nd Street. Loucendia Reed Lambert was struck and killed shortly before 8 a.m. at North 14th and East Franklin streets.

DUI charge in fatal crash
Henrico police have charged a county man with driving under the influence following a two-car collision that killed one man and sent nine others to area hospitals. The collision Saturday night at 9:40 p.m. occurred after an eastbound Oldsmobile on Williamsburg Road swerved to avoid a motorscooter pulling away from Klockner Drive. The Oldsmobile driven by Jerome J. Lewis, 25, of the 2200 block of Brockway Lane east of Glenwood Golf Club, crossed the center line and collided with an oncoming SUV, authorities said.

Pilot killed in crash had homemade plane overhauled last year
The death of a longtime pilot on Lake Anna in Louisa County on Sunday has stunned friends and flying companions who say he was a fixture in the flying community throughout Virginia. “He was one of the top pilots I’ve ever known,“ said Gene McDonough, president of Million Air in Richmond, a private charter service. Edward B. Toth, 46, worked for McDonough for several years beginning in 1990, and the two had maintained a close friendship. Toth was especially well-known in Richmond, McDonough said. Toth’s father lives in Colonial Heights and his mother in Urbanna.

Pilot died of blunt-force trauma in Lake Anna crash
A pilot whose homemade airplane crashed in Lake Anna on Sunday died from blunt-force trauma to the neck and chest, the state medical examiner’s office said. Edward B. Toth, 46, a veteran pilot from Nokesville in Prince William County, apparently died on impact from what is being listed as an accidental death. State police said yesterday that Toth was in the process of taking off from the lake when the two-seat, single-engine Maxair Drifter lost power, hit the water, and cartwheeled nose first. The partially submerged plane, which has no doors, was upside down with Toth strapped into his seat.

Blunt force killed Lake Anna pilot
A pilot whose homemade airplane crashed in Lake Anna yesterday died from blunt force trauma to the neck and chest, the state medical examiner’s office says. Edward B. Toth, 46, a veteran pilot from Nokesville in Prince William County, apparently died on impact from what is being listed as an accidental death. Toth was flying with his 17-year-old daughter in a two-seat, single-engine Maxair Drifter when the plane went down near the southern shore of Lake Anna yesterday in Louisa County about 1 p.m. The Federal Aviation Administration and Virginia State Police are investigating the crash.

Md. skydiver dies near West Point
The body of a veteran soldier and skydiver, the victim of an apparent skydiving accident, was found yesterday about 5 miles east of West Point’s Middle Peninsula Regional Airport. State police released few details into what they said appeared to be the accidental death of Command Sgt. Maj. Harry L. Parrish Jr., 53, of Fort Meade, Md. Parrish was conducting an airborne civilian training program with 14 students Saturday about 7 p.m. when he left the plane.

1 killed, 7 hurt in crash on I-95 in Chesterfield
A woman suffered fatal injuries and seven other people were sent to hospitals yesterday after a van headed to a family reunion collided with a sport utility vehicle on Interstate 95 in Chesterfield County. Valarie Robinson, 52, of Far Rockaway, N.Y., died from her injures at VCU Medical Center, said Virginia State Police Sgt. Thomas J. Molnar.

Man killed in Richmond crash
A 25-year-old man was killed in a two-vehicle crash early yesterday morning in South Richmond. It happened shortly after 5 a.m. when a westbound car traveling fast on Hull Street Road near Belt Boulevard collided with an eastbound flatbed wrecker as it was making a left turn, said Richmond police Capt. Scott Booth. Richmond resident Dennis Smith, a front-seat passenger in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Missing Chesterfield County man died at crash site
A Chesterfield County man missing since the early morning hours Friday was located this afternoon by friends and family where his motorcycle crashed in a fatal accident. Chesterfield authorities and State Police said that Ricky Viar, 31, was located by friends in a copse of trees off the Courthouse Road exit of eastbound Powhite Parkway. He was pronounced dead at the scene yesterday.

Henrico woman killed in Richmond crash
Richmond police are investigating a crash that killed one woman and injured another yesterday when their speeding sport utility vehicle went airborne near the Lee Bridge and slammed into a billboard support. Police said Jaquaiza L. Clark, 19, was the driver of the Jeep Cherokee that crashed at 12:59 a.m. at the south end of the bridge. Clark, of the 6400 block of Majestic Way in the Varina area of Henrico County, was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

Manchester Bridge southbound lanes closed for 5 hours after fatal motorcycle accident
The southbound lanes on the Manchester Bridge were closed for more than five hours yesterday after a fatal motorcycle crash. Richmond police said an unidentified male died of injuries suffered in the 3:45 p.m. wreck.

Fatal fire determined to be suicide
HERNDON—Fairfax County police say a fire that killed two people in a Herndon home was a murder-suicide. Investigators say an autopsy determined 55-year-old Chi-Len Chen was stabbed and killed and 55-year-old Ho Bih Chen died in the fire. Police say both lived in the home. Neighbors reported the fire around 4 a.m. Thursday at the home in the 12000 block of Eddyspark Drive.
Pedestrian killed on I-295 north
State police said a Glen Allen man was struck and killed yesterday on northbound Interstate 295 in Henrico County. A box truck was traveling in the right lane of northbound I-295, north of the Woodman Road exit, when a pedestrian who was in a woodline off the right shoulder of the northbound side ran onto the roadway and was struck by the truck at about 12:15 p.m., said Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Tom Cunningham.

Man, 26, dies in one-car crash in Bedford County
A 26-year-old man was killed Tuesday in a single-vehicle crash in Bedford County, Virginia State Police said. Caleb Eli Brown Prettyman of Evington was driving on state Route 623, three-tenths of a mile east of state Route 811, when the car ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected, crossed the road, struck a pipe, overturned and hit a utility pole around noon, police said.

Pedestrian struck by car in Fairfax County Feb. 24 dies of injuries
A pedestrian struck by a car in Fairfax County last week died of her injuries Wednesday, Virginia State Police said. Police said that on Feb. 24, Galia Falome Quispe, 37, of Vienna walked in front of a car traveling south on state Route 650/Gallows Road, just north of state Route 697, at 7:25 p.m. Police said she was crossing against the crosswalk signal.
