Five students arrested after fight at Wythe High School
Five male students were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct yesterday after a cafeteria fight that led authorities to lock down George Wythe High School, Richmond police said. Four of the five were juveniles and one was 18, a police spokeswoman said. Police received the call at about 11:30 a.m. There were no injuries, the spokeswoman said.

Wythe High reports drop in violence, thanks to partnership
George Wythe High School is not what it once was. That’s a good thing. The atmosphere of fights and shootings that landed the Richmond school in the news in recent years has been replaced by relative calm. Nearly every non-academic indicator of school failure—truancy, dropouts, suspensions, physical encounters, thefts on and near campus—is down this year, according to the school system and city police.

Jazmin Pitts led all scorers with 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds as the top-ranked Titans cruised past the Bulldogs in a Dominion District game. Cosby led 21-0 after one quarter and romped to a victory. Andrea Bertrand and Becca Wann supported Pitts’ efforts with 14 points and Wann added 10 assists and seven rebounds. Shatisha Hardy and Chelsea Hopson scored 9 ponts apiece to lead George Wythe.

Darryl Johnson tallied 27 points and six rebounds, and Ken Pankey added 26 points to help L.C. Bird defeat visiting George Wythe in a Dominion District matchup. David Brown and Juan Wilson scored 19 points apiece the lead sixth-ranked Huguenot to a Dominion District victory Wednesday at George Wythe. Sean Brown contributed 15 points and Jonathan Crawley added 12 in the Falcons’ balanced attack. The teams were tied at halftime, but the Falcons outscored the Bulldogs, who won their first game in two years last Friday, 26-12 in the third quarter to take control. The teams combined for 54 points in the last quarter.
