Marion Yobs dies at 91, was a candidate for Henrico supervisor, state delegate
“I want all our children to have the best, and I don’t think the men are dishing out the best,“ Marion T. Yobs said during her 1960 campaign for the House of Delegates. Mrs. Yobs had in 1955 become the first woman in Henrico County’s long history to run for political office, seeking the Tuckahoe District seat on the Board of Supervisors. After running unsuccessfully for supervisor as a Democrat, she campaigned for the House of Delegates as an independent in a 1960 special election and in the 1971 election for one of three House seats Henrico was allotted after the General Assembly reapportioned after the 1970 census.
