in predicted order of finish 2008 records: 6-0 Capital, 12-1
Offense: The Blue Devils averaged 29 points a game last season behind Trey Johnson (5-10, 170), who rushed for 1,969 yards and 21 TDs, and Hermon Norrell (5-10, 170), who threw for 1,491 and 21 TDs. They return for their senior season with speedy and talented Jerel Harrison becoming the primary WR. Marquis Wallace (6-4, 290, Sr.) stands out on a young line. Finding a place kicker to replace Cory Gay is the toughest task.

Henrico High grad gets free tuition at Johns Hopkins
Completing the International Baccalaureate program at Henrico High School gave Ronald Puryear Jr. a head start on his college career in more ways than one. At Johns Hopkins University, where he has a full-tuition scholarship, he will begin the biomedical engineering program with more than a semester of credits from his high school IB and Advanced Placement classes - plus he has learned an essential skill from the rigorous IB program.

Hanover, Henrico, Chesterfield teams place at robotics event
Teams from Hanover, Henrico and Chesterfield counties placed as finalists or winners in the annual FIRST Robotics Competition NASA/VCU Regional, held Friday and Saturday at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Siegel Center. Justices pull away from Springers, look forward to a ‘classic’ rematch
The rematch is upon us. Reigning Central Region champion John Marshall and last year’s runner-up, Petersburg, tangle Monday night at 7:45 at the Siegel Center. After undefeated and nationally ranked Petersburg defeated Henrico in the first semifinal last night, John Marshall, No. 2 in The Times-Dispatch Top 10, earned the opportunity to defend its title with a 74-68 victory over third-ranked Highland Springs before a capacity (7,500) crowd at the Siegel Center.

Justin Coleman scored 28 points, pulled down 16 rebounds and blocked four shots as Henrico defeated Thomas Dale. Trey Davis had 16 points and eight rebounds. Kris Walden had four assists. Myles Turner picked up 21 points and Malcom King had 17 in a losing effort for Thomas Dale. HENRICO 70, THOMAS DALE 56

Girls: No. 3 Mills Godwin 60, No. 8 Henrico 47
Tied after three quarters of play, No. 3 Mills Godwin held No. 8 Henrico to five points in the fourth and went on to win. Michelle Foley led scoring with 20 points for the Eagles. Sallie Foster had 17 and Rachel Nichols had 10 points and nine rebounds. Bria Harris led the Warriors with 11 points. Elaine Derricott had 10 points and nine rebounds.
Boys: No. 8 Henrico 58, Mills Godwin 43
Justin Coleman and Trey Davis combined for 19 of Henrico’s 21 points in the fourth quarter as the Warriors finally pulled away and eliminated a stubborn Mills Godwin team. The Warriors outscored the visiting Eagles 21-6 in the final stanza. Coleman finished with a game-high 26 points, 13 rebounds and six blocked shots. Davis, hampered by foul trouble in the first half, wound up with 14 points, 10 rebounds and four assists.

Spurts power Springers
Henrico, ignited by the sparkling play of Justin Coleman, put up a good fight against No. 1-seed Highland Springs in the Capital District championship game last night at Hanover High School. In the end, however, Highland Springs’ inside-outside combo of Jeri Mask and Xavier Parham delivered the heaviest blows as the Springers KO’d the Warriors 67-48 to secure their fifth consecutive tournament title.

Boys: No. 2 Henrico 66, No. 3 Varina 56
Trey Davis scored 26 points and had 14 rebounds, 4 steals and 4 assists as second-seeded Henrico defeated Varina in the Capital District semifinals. Corey Harrison came off the bench for the Warriors to score a season-high 11 points, 9 of which were in the second half, to help power Henrico to victory. Justin Coleman added 14 points and 8 rebounds.
