VHSL roundup: Champions crowned
Colonial Beach opened the second half with a 15-0 run and went on to nip Eastern Montgomery 77-75 in the Group A, Division 1 boys basketball tournament championship game yesterday at the Siegel Center. The Drifters won their first state title behind the one-two scoring/rebounding combo of T.T. Carey and Dylan Farinet. Carey had 37 points (23 in the second half) and 16 rebounds. Farinet scored all 18 of his points in the second half and hauled in 19 rebounds. The Drifters outrebounded the Mustangs 52-31.

Region high school teams ready for state tournament play tonight
The top area high school teams in the state tournament will face Northern Virginia high schools in quarterfinal play tonight and tomorrow night.

Central Region high school basketball title games rescheduled for Wednesday
The Central Region basketball tournament boys and girls championship games scheduled tonight at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Siegel Center have been postponed until Wednesday.

Bender, Huguenot hold on for win
Tye Bender had 20 points and six steals as Huguenot, ranked No. 6 in the T-D Top Ten Poll, held off No. 7 Monacan 55-49 last night. Marcia Bogan registered 14 points and seven assists for the Falcons. Eban Harris scored 10 points and Jeanette Cousins added five blocks. Candice Silas scored 22 points for the Chiefs, who held the Falcons to just seven points in the fourth quarter.
