High school notes
What did Manchester’s thrilling overtime victory over Cosby mean to the Lancers? “It was a huge kick to our psyche considering how we had played the two weeks prior,“ Manchester coach Tom Hall said. “We have blown opportunities this year—not to take anything away from the teams we’ve lost to—that have altered our season.“ The Lancers are 3-2 in the Dominion District and 4-3 overall. They lost the season opener to Thomas Dale in overtime after leading by 14 points. Turnovers and special teams mistakes had a major hand in the district losses to James River and Clover Hill that ended playoff hopes.

With Dinwiddie’s 56-17 loss to Meadowbrook in the Central District last week, Division 6 teams seem to be in line to claim all four district titles - and the accompanying automatic playoff berths - in the Central Region. Atlee (1-0 in the Capital District, 3-1) is the only Division 5 team still unbeaten in its district, but the Raiders must play district heavyweights Varina (this week) and Highland Springs.
