100 area teens learn what it takes to get a job
Jordan Wilson, a soft-spoken 15year-old sophomore at Varina High School, is learning that finding work is, well, work. Wilson was among more than 100 teenagers yesterday taking a crash course in navigating a job market that’s difficult for adults. Not only did the teens meet with prospective employers, such as grocery and fast-food chains and an Internet-services firm, they got workplace pointers, including etiquette, how to deal with customers and handling money.

Henrico residents push for new high school in Varina
Many residents of eastern Henrico County don’t care where the funds come from to build a new school. What they care about is that students aren’t going to classes in trailers, don’t have to wait in long cafeteria lines and have facilities on par with other parts of the county. About 75 residents attended a public hearing about the proposed Henrico budget tonight at a Board of Supervisors meeting. Many of them were wearing buttons reading “Eastern Henrico Schools Now.“

A good estimate is roughly $500 for a couple, if you consider the cost of a moderately-priced gown and tux rental, a nice meal, a traditional limousine, flowers, tickets and pictures. But if you think you have to spend big bucks to have fun on prom night, think again. A little creativity goes a long way. Tradition: Spend hundreds of dollars on a designer-label dress you’ll only wear once.
