The Springers didn’t mess around with smash-mouth football last night. They used five plays of 60 or more yards, each a touchdown, to defeat Lee-Davis 41-14 and remain undefeated in the Capital District.

Williamson, Pulley best in Central
Thomas Dale’s Eric Williamson ran a 16:45 yesterday to help the Knights win the Central District boys cross country title over the upper course at Pocahontas State Park. It was the 18th consecutive in individual title for a Knights runner. Thomas Dale also won the team title, upsetting regular-season champion Matoaca. Coach-of-the-year honors went to Thomas Dale’s Bob Gulley.

Exum powers No. 2 Deep Run
Antone Exum tossed five touchdowns and ran for another as Deep Run, No. 3 in the Times-Dispatch Top 10 Poll, defeated John Marshall 51-20 last night in each team’s Colonial District opener.

Raiders, Rapids reign on links
Atlee and James River captured district golf tournament championships yesterday. Led by medalist Collin Turner, Atlee compiled a four-player score of 314 at Belmont Golf Course and finished six shots clear of Hanover in the Capital District. Turner posted a 4-over 75. Belmont yielded just six scores under 80. Atlee earned a berth in the Central Region tournament (Oct. 6-7) as did Hanover, which had tied for first during the regular season with Lee-Davis.
