Springers’ rush hour
After a disjointed first half in which it was able to score only one touchdown, Highland Springs opened the third quarter by grinding out its first convincing drive against Hanover. In small chunks, the Springers’ offense reclaimed their home turf and pulled away to a 19-10 win. “We told them, you know, when we’ve got people on the ropes, you know, you’ve kind of got to be like Ali—you’ve got to knock’em out,“ head coach Loren Johnson said. “We felt like, running the ball, we could do that if we execute.“

Springers will forfeit two football victories
Highland Springs is forfeiting its two football victories this season because an ineligible player participated in the first three games. “It was a mistake. We found it and corrected it,“ Highland Springs Activities Director Rudy Ward said. “We’re not going to throw anyone under the bus. That’s it. Period.“ Highland Springs, ranked No. 5 in The Times-Dispatch Top 10 Poll, was 2-1 under new coach Loren Johnson. The loss was to Woodbridge, which is ranked No. 6 in the state Group AAA Associated Press Poll. The victories were over Douglas Freeman and Mills Godwin.
