No. 5 Highland Springs rushed the ball 28 times for 204 yards en route to a win over Henrico. Springer running back John Thompson carred the ball 11 times for 151 yards and 2 TDs. Teammate John Saunders carried it eight times for 77 yards and a touchdown. Henrico’s Brinton Hill had 4.5 tackles, a sack, and three tackles for loss. Highland Springs’ Gevonn Young had 4.5 tackles for the Springers.

Football: Highland Springs 27, Huguenot 6
Jaquan Burchette’s two scoring passes in the first quarter helped the seventh-ranked Springs take control of its non-district game with the Falcons. Burchette opened the scoring for Highland Springs (4-1) with a 14-yars strike to Wyatt Johnson. Huguenot (2-3) tied it when Trevor Williams hit Mario Williams on 25-yard touchdown pass. Burchette (8 of 9, 114 yards, 3 touchdowns) connected with GeVonn Young on a 14-yard score to put the Springers ahead for good and tossed another scoring pass to Marcellus Carter to end the first half. John Saunders led the ground attack with 89 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries.

Sixth-ranked Springers wriggle free against Hanover
Try as Hanover might against Highland Springs, the Hawks cannot get over the hump for a victory. The Hawks outplayed the Springers last night before a homecoming crowd and drew many compliments for a stellar effort, but when the clock struck 0:00, Highland Springs was a 13-7 victor. As Springers quarterback JaQuan Burchette, a senior, said, “I like playing Hanover. We knew going in that it would be a tough ballgame. Hanover always plays hard.“
