Wilson cruises past Briscoe in win
WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. - Justin Wilson passed polesitter Ryan Briscoe early, then dominated the IndyCar Series race yesterday at Watkins Glen International to give team owner Dale Coyne his first victory after 25 years of trying. Penske and Target Chip Ganassi drivers had won the previous eight races this season, including 10 straight and 15 of 16 dating to last year. Coyne’s victory came in his 558th entry as an owner-driver.

Auto Notes: IRL 90 percent sure 2010 season will open in Brazil
The IndyCar Series plans to start its 2010 season in Brazil. Paperwork was submitted on Wednesday to Brazilian officials for one race in March in Ribeirao Preto, Brazil, a municipality and city in the state of Sao Paulo in southeastern Brazil. Terry Angstadt, the IRL’s president, commercial division, told the Times-Dispatch yesterday he’s “90 percent” certain that race will take place.

Indy winner Unser listed as extortion victim
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.—Two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Al Unser Jr. is listed as an extortion victim in a grand jury indictment against the suspected head of an Albuquerque prostitution ring. The district attorney’s office said the suspect, 47-year-old Bobby McMullin, tried to blackmail Unser with claims of a “compromising” videotape in February and March 2004.
