Now the county plans to study whether a different mix of land uses is needed to keep it vital. The Board of Supervisors will vote tonight to begin a land-use study on about 800 acres of the Innsbrook area between West Broad Street and Nuckols Road near Interstate 295.

Office-vacancy rates rise in Richmond area
Innsbrook area businesses hit Robert Davenport was stunned yesterday to see empty parking spaces and a few empty parking lots in the Innsbrook Corporate Center when he drove through the office park. “It used to be you couldn’t find a spot to park,“ said Davenport, an Henrico County resident. Even more parking in the western Henrico office park and nearby buildings will open up in the next six months.

Steve Howe’s legacy in Yes and Asia endures
Steve Howe might look frail, and it’s not unnatural to wonder how his stamina will hold up for a summer tour—especially one in which the 62-year-old is playing in two bands. But the legendary guitarist for prog-rock heroes Yes and poppier’80s supergroup Asia isn’t too concerned.

Military, first responders can see Innsbrook show for free
The organizers of Innsbrook After Hours will keep the Memorial Day spirit chugging into the week. For tomorrow’s co-headlining show of Little Feat and Tea Leaf Green, all military personnel and those who work as first responders will be admitted to the concert for free. “It seems the proper thing to do,“ said Laurin Willis, one of the promoters of the Innsbrook series. “In this post-9/11 world, these are the people who have been the heroes the past seven years.“

ZZ Top still a crowd-pleaser
ZZ Top has always been a dichotomy—a band that projects a cartoonish image with the beards, hats, shades and furry guitars, yet musically, churns out swampy blues rock that rivals idols such as Muddy Waters and Jimi Hendrix. Both ZZs showed up last night at Innsbrook’s Snagajob.com Pavilion, with the classic rock radio-friendly hits “Got Me Under Pressure” and “Gimme All Your Lovin’” launching the 90-minute show.

Festivalgoers soak up wine, sunshine at event
With temperatures yesterday reaching the low 90s, thousands worked up a healthy sweat while sampling from 22 Virginia wineries at the 18th annual James River Wine Festival. Wine was plentiful, but shade was not on the festival grounds at the Innsbrook Corporate Center in western Henrico County. Putting their Army skills to use, retired Lt. Col. Justin Porto, 54, and retired Master Sgt. John Modrich, 49, fashioned a tent out of umbrella chairs, a quilt and PVC pipe found in nearby woods. Army Capt. Heather Andrews, 36, and Christina Bleck, 50, took refuge from the sun beneath the makeshift shade.

Innsbrook heart walkers step up to healthy lifestyles
Bobby Coleman was at the front of a pack of 5,000 finishing up a rainy 3-mile walk through Innsbrook yesterday morning. He did it in about a half-hour. Not bad for a guy who underwent sixtuple-bypass surgery in June. “This feels great,“ Coleman said of the Start! Richmond Heart Walk, an annual event led by the American Heart Association.
